Jonny Greenwood always cuts a striking figure slashing away at his guitar in Radiohead, but it was only when his group turned towards Kid A's more overtly experimental terrain that fans got a full taste of his sonic virtuosity. Greenwood worked on several longer pieces as the BBC's composer-in-residence in 2004 — one of which, Popcorn Superhet Receiver, supplied many of the chilling, taut musical passages of his 2007 score for There Will Be Blood. The Wordless Music Series presents the West Coast premiere of Greenwood's Messiaen-inspired composition on the eve of Radiohead's headlining slot at the Outside Lands music festival.
