In 1953, not much was niftier than a 3-D movie about an alien invasion. That's still pretty much the case, so be sure to check out It Came from Outer Space, one of the best alien movies of all time. From a short story by Ray Bradbury, director Jack Arnold's film follows the creepy happenings in a small Arizona town after a meteor crash-lands in the desert. People start to act strangely, as if they're not quite themselves — as if they might be under the influence of something not of this Earth! Besides being the first instance of alien body-snatching on the silver screen, the movie also features a pointed critique of Cold War xenophobia.
