Banjos, bass, drums, and yodels are part of the arsenal; the sound may be wild and unhinged, but it's clear that all the members of the Auto Club are masterful, precise musicians. The group's latest release on Alternative Tentacles, Cipher, is frantic, humorous, sincere, and guaranteed to make listeners shake their bones. Standout tracks include the ambling and mournful "SCAC 101" and "Magalina Hagalina Boom Boom," a sideshow anthem full of bravado and japery.
