American Conservatory Theater says…

Tom Stoppard's 2007 work follows hippies, idealogues, and idealistic rockers through three decades of political turmoil and personal exploration in Cambridge, England and Prague. Incorporating the music of Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, and revolutionary Czech rock band Plastic People of the Universe as both a soundtrack and narrative device, Rock 'n' Roll traces the rise and fall of Communism in the former Czechoslovakia through the eyes of a young university student obsessed with rock music and a Marxist professor who spouts political rhetoric from his flat. This staging is the play's West Coast premiere.
