CFI Rafael Film Center says…

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences lays claim to a veritable treasure trove of American cinematic history; unfortunately, a large portion of its films are in rough shape. But considerable restoration efforts are on prime display in this brief series. Witness the magnificent colors on display in the freshly scrubbed prints of Leave Her to Heaven (1945), The Big Country (1958), and The River (1951). Heaven stands out for being a film noir shot in Technicolor, while The Big Country is a rare western that preaches pacifism. The River, Jean Renoir's first foray into color production, chronicles a British family in newly independent India. Martin Scorsese called it "one of the two most beautiful color films ever made."
