After kicking off his career with San Francisco punks the Nuns, Alejandro Escovedo ushered in the alt-country movement with Austin bands Rank and File and the True Believers. Now a revered elder statesman of the rock world, Escovedo has moved from noise to laying down delicate layers of cello and pedal steel. His tales of love and loss ring especially true since, in 2003, he contracted hepatitis C and was forced to face the disease with no health insurance. The resurgent rocker returns to his hometown tonight with support from crooner Carrie Rodriguez.
