Hanif Kurieshi, Something to Tell You

Hanif Kureishi, writer of such popular and critically acclaimed films as My Beautiful Laundrette and Sammy and Rosie Get Laid, takes a humorous, touching look at the pleasures and perils of middle age in his new novel Something to Tell You. Jamal, a successful, mid-career psychoanalyst is — unsurprisingly — as neurotic as his patients. "Secrets are my currency," he explains. "I deal in them for a living." It turns out Jamal has plenty of secrets of his own to spill, and over the course of the novel, a colorful cross section of outcasts, free spirits, and crackups in the post-globalized UK become his unlikely confessors.
