Herbst Theater says…

Cash awards have long served as an incentive for innovators; for instance, Charles Lindbergh snagged the $25,000 Orteig Prize upon completing his nonstop transatlantic flight. Entrepreneur Peter Diamandis has created a modern-day variant with his X Prizes, but only one has been awarded thus far (the Ansari X, to Burt Ratan's private passenger spaceship design), and three others are up for grabs, including a multimillion dollar bounty to produce a commercially viable car capable of getting 100 mpg. Tonight, Diamandis discusses his next batch of potential prizes, speculates about which achievements would be most impactful for future generations, and explores the effects of incentivization on scientific progress.
