Shepard Fairey's red, white, and blue Obama posters flooded city walls and the public consciousness earlier this year with a burst of HOPE. In this exhibit of over 100 new canvases, the darker ironies of Fairey's trademark OBEY campaign have given way to a conflicted, guarded optimism. Inspired by a line from Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam War epic Full Metal Jacket (1987), Fairey explores the "duality of humanity," war and peace's messy yin and yang. He sums it up perfectly in the central image of the show: a boy soldier wielding a machine gun, an exquisite red flower tucked in his hat.
