Deft with scissors, collage artist Gwenaël Rattke has been cutting things up since his teen years in Berlin, where he got his start fashioning punk zines and fliers. For his current show, he clipped pictures from vintage magazines, books, and found photos, then recombined them in sinuous, repetitive patterns that resemble a sort of hallucinatory update on Art Nouveau. Rife with sensual imagery from the '60s and '70s, Rattke's visual mashups evoke the mystical films of Kenneth Anger or the psychedelic poster art of the San Francisco '60s rock scene.
