Dorothy may have made it back to Kansas, but America's cultural imagination never really left Oz. Or so goes the thesis of this tightly-packed group show based on Frank L. Baum's series of children's books and MGM's 1939 musical film. While many of the artists directly reference Baum's world (often with tongues firmly in cheek) some of the show's strongest pieces take a more oblique approach to the novels' themes of displacement and escape, as in Rivane Neuenschwander's wishing-wall installation or Felix Gonzalez-Torres' passport-like photography chapbooks. William Wallace Denslow's original illustrations and Judy Garland's iconic ruby slippers lend to the mix of fantasy and reality.
