Roadworks: Steamroller Prints
Saturday Sep 20, 2008 (noon–5pm)

The San Francisco Center for the Book throws its annual daylong street festival which transforms Potrero Hill into a supersize printmaking workshop. Guest artists (including Enrique Chagoya and Chez Panisse illustrator Patricia Curtan) carve their designs into 4' x 4' linoleum blocks. Volunteers apply ink to plates, lay down paper, then commandeer a two-ton steamroller to press these unique linocuts. They do it in the road — De Haro Street to be exact — with music, kids' activities, and art-book vendors. The final pieces are auctioned off at a gala dinner in November to benefit SFCB.
