Sufjan Stevens still has a ways to go to make good on his promise of 50 albums for 50 states, but state-lovers can take solace in a new collection of essays compiled by Paris Review editor Matt Weiland and San Francisco-based author Sean Wilsey (Oh the Glory of It All). Wilsey visits the Booksmith tonight to discuss his project's origins, as well as the WPA-sponsored shows of artistic unity in the '30s and '40s. Whether you're in it for Susan Orlean on Ohio or William T. Vollman on California, State by State's nationwide panorama promises plenty of unexpected stops along the way.
