Hornucopia

Just when you thought the summer — and consequently, the Bay Area's overstuffed calendar of music festivals — was winding down, along comes a blast from the past, and from the present and future, too. The ambitious Hornucopia fest is a brass bonanza that worships horns in all their disparate glory, whether they are punching out New Orleans jazz, Balkan or Rom fanfare, klezmer, reggae, son, salsa, or hip-hop. Local bands dominate the bill, with an album-release party from the Brass Menažeri, a rare appearance by Iron & the Albatross, and the Extra Action Marching Band's sexed-up school spirit setting the tone; but it's hard to go wrong with any of the acts.
