Note:
There is a mid-exhibit reception on Thursday, October 2 (5-8pm).
This series of participatory events, curated by Chuck Mobley, destabilizes the viewer's static relationship to the photograph-as-object — the exhibit seeks to transform gallery goers into artistic subjects and artists into conceptual facilitators. For example, Tim Sullivan lets you channel your inner Tallulah Bankhead á la bluescreen, as he leads improvised reworkings of scenes from Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat (1944); Roger Sayre labors over daguerrotype portraits that take him an hour; and Guillermo Gómez-Peña and Violeta Luna transform audience members into instant performance artists and paparazzi photographers. And if you're still wanting for participation, the multiTASK collective is sure to have you rolling up your sleeves.
