Kate Durkin combines stitching, acrylic, and collage to create an imaginative world reminiscent of Where the Wild Things Are. It's a whimsical effect that relies on Durkin's playful juxtaposition of subjects and mediums. Her comic-book figures inhabit a land where stylized features are cut from one beast and pasted onto another. (A boy wears a handlebar mustache; a girl wears a set of antlers.) These simple images are arranged as stitched panels in quilt-like collages, building opaque narratives in simple, earthy tones.
