Nat Russell's hairy creatures and loping surfers have a distinctly Pacific aura; the artist's solo show at the beachside Mollusk Surf Shop, then, is a cinch. Russell's designs have graced many of the shop's stylish t-shirts in the past, though the local artist is no mere hobbyhorse. Equally adept at commercial printmaking and fine art, Russell makes images that appeal to fans of the Beautiful Losers set. He also pens sleepy pop songs for Birds of America — though for the New Heaven opening, he hands the musical reigns to California electro-wizard Sorcerer.
