An incredible soundtrack — for instance, one laden with melancholic tracks from Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Tears for Fears — can make a certified cult classic that much more classic. Case in point: the cryptic, time-traveling teen drama Donnie Darko. The unsettling indie flick follows a troubled teenager (Jake Gyllenhaal) haunted by a six-foot-tall rabbit of questionable provenance. Overshadowed by 9/11 upon its intial '01 release, Darko has since been resurrected in midnight screenings across the country — due in large part to its disconcerting denouement, Gyllenhaal's tortured performance, and, yes, its extraordinary use of underground '80s pop hits.
