Although a frequent Hollywood favorite for location shooting, San Francisco has long been a center for fiercely independent filmmakers and their supporters. The SF Film Society's Cinema by the Bay mini-fest celebrates our local auteurs (as well as outsider filmmakers drawn to the Bay Area for source material), showcasing some of the Bay's most creative and risk-taking talent. Our picks include the harrowing documentary Sons of a Gun, Mission-set indie rom-com Sorry, Thanks, and Joe DiMaggio-stalker/multimedia artist Anne McGuire's closing night variety show.
