David Mamet is, arguably, a lot of things: a misogynist, a feminist, underrated, overrated. One thing's for certain, though — he's one of America's most prolific and popular playwrights. In the West Coast premiere of last year's November, Andrew Polk stars as Charles Smith, an incumbent president hoping to be re-elected. Within a single day, Smith faces an endless list of political hot-button issues: gay marriage, gambling, campaign contributions, and more. Mamet's profanity-filled dialogue should provide some much-needed levity for our current political climate in which the far right's attacks on the Obama administration have become harder to laugh off.
