Note:
Taro Hattori and Jordan Essoe will give artists' talks on Wednesday, November 11 at 6:30 pm.
Taro Hattori's sculpture and installation work reflect his background in psychology, incisively and wittily capturing the misfires of desire. The title of the Oakland-based artist's current show is a pun, referring to both the letter "v," a nod to the sculpture of a V-2 rocket that's the show's centerpiece, and the number five (the piece is split into five sections). The most inefficient weapon to date, the V-2 killed more in its production than its deployment. Hattori extends this irony by constructing his V-2 model with corrugated cardboard — an eminently functional material, yet one he uses here to monumentalize failure.
