With Pixar, Image Movers, and Lucasfilm all proudly hailing from the Bay Area, it should come as no surprise that one of SF Film Society's most intriguing offerings is the SF International Animation Festival. Now in its third year, the fest pushes stylistic and narrative boundaries while presenting an awing diversity of animation techniques. Highlights include Wes Anderson's snarky take on Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox (including an amusing voice-acting turn by George Clooney as the lead canid); the Mamoru Oshii-penned Musashi:The Dream of the Last Samurai, an Edo period-set anime about the development of classic Japanese sword fighting; and Metropia, Tarik Saleh's frightening dystopian vision of a near-future of total surveillance.
