A consummate maverick, Isabella Rossellini boasts a CV that encompasses lengthy stints as an actress (most notably portraying a mysterious nightclub singer in Blue Velvet) model, environmental activist, and writer. Combining these passions into a quirky, educational set of shorts commissioned by the Sundance Institute, she created Green Porno, a look at animals’ sex lives. First investigating the mating habits of insects, and then moving on to marine life, Rossellini dresses up as her subjects and acts out their fascinating mating rituals while giving insights about the challenges faced by these species face as a result of environmental upheaval. Tonight, former California Academy of Sciences Executive Director Roy Eisenhardt discusses the series with Rossellini.

City Arts & Lectures says…

Actress, model and director Isabella Rossellini has appeared in more than 40 films in the course of her career. From a starring role in David Lynch's cult classic "Blue Velvet," to guest appearances on "30 Rock" and "Alias," Rossellini has delivered countless fearless, funny and nuanced performances. She recently turned her talents toward a series of short films called GREEN PORNO. GREEN PORNO deals with the mating habits of bugs and sea creatures, and has been celebrated in film festivals both here and abroad.

The evening will begin with some of Rossellini's most memorable moments on film before her conversation with interviewer Roy Eisenhardt and audience Q&A.
