Turn a Lemur controller and a Casio keyboard loose inside a 1980s fun house, then invite a Commodore-64 over to play, and the result would sound something like Neon Indian. Less polished and complex than Alan Palomo's earlier musical adventures (VEGA, Ghosthustler), Neon Indian is as lo-fi and nostalgic as the 8-bit Capcom sounds he emulates. Like those of his robot-genius contemporaries Daft Punk, Palomo's beats inspire a groove, though the overall effect is more arcade than dance floor (due in no small part to Alicia Scardetta's spacey visuals). Thankfully, openers Nite Jewel are there to take care of your dancing needs with their goofy, lo-fi disco-pop, complete with the occasional ABBA-inspired diva vocal.
