When The Sound of Music was first released, some critics regarded the 1965 box-office smash as too sweet for its own good. One even sneered that the musical was "the sugar-coated lie people seem to want to eat." Nevermind the curmudgeons. Rodgers and Hammerstein's charming tale of the staid von Trapp family and its cheery governess with a singing problem (Julie Andrews) is pure pop bliss. Once again, the Castro lets you sate your sweet tooth at its annual sing-along screening of The Sound of Music. Boo the traitorous Rolf, hiss at the baroness, and Do-Re-Mi your heart out to the 16 classic tunes. Costumes — religious habits, lederhosen, curtain dresses, brown-paper packages tied up with string — are encouraged.
