An ancient metropolis now home to some eight million residents, Tehran is as complicated, intriguing, and deeply layered as any city likely to be included in future omnibus celluloid love letters sprung from the success of Paris, je t'aime. Under the guidance of local artist Taraneh Hemami and Tehran-based artist Ghazaleh Hedayat, nine multi-disciplinary creators use the capital as a looking glass to examine Iran's conflicting tendencies toward both the extreme and mainstream; its outside perception as ideological stronghold and nascent democratic ally; and its jagged history of infamy and model statehood. Between these lines, each artist looks to the rhythms of quotidian Tehran, finding a common, de-mystifying humanity in the city's everyday existence.
