CounterPULSE's Performing Diaspora Festival gives space to 13 performers who are innovating and experimenting within a range of traditional dance forms, from Serbian Flamenco to Afro-Haitian folkloric dance, Rembetiko shadow puppetry to Filipino hip-hop movement. The results are at once serious and buoyant, and capable of asking tough, necessary questions about the future of traditional arts in a modern world, while also joyously marking out the next steps in their evolution.
