Amiri Baraka is a leading American poet and cultural critic whose provocative work has raised hackles for nearly half a century. Combining a rare sensitivity to the rhythms of language with a revolutionary political consciousness, Baraka spurred a generation of artists and activists to speak and act out against oppression. Tonight, saxophonist Howard Wiley leads his trio in providing a musical call-and-response to Baraka's fiery verse.
