Without Liquid Sky (1982) — Slava Tsuckerman's bizarre slice of LES new wave, sci-fi — Jem and the Holograms would never have been truly outrageous, electroclash would have run out of sartorial source material to crib, and Lady Gaga would not be rocking half of the blond topiary sculptures that she calls wigs. It's all here: face paint and clothes that would make Adam Ant blush, a killer synth soundtrack, and so many quotable lines. Check out the only existing 35mm print of this underground classic at the tail end of MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS' Ladies of the Eighties triple feature, after you catch a potty-mouthed Whoopi in Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986) and a young Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985).
