"Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art," Andy Warhol once quipped. Warhol Live focuses on the artist's influence on and involvement in pop music, but it also traces Warhol's development as a canny capitalist. Rock-music sainthood aside, the Velvet Underground and Nico were really Warhol's first major business venture, which sold the Factory scene's underground cache as a package deal, complete with LP and the Exploding Plastic Inevitable traveling road show (here recreated as an installation). It's unsurprising, then, that Warhol later turned to commissioned portraits (Aretha Franklin, Debbie Harry, Liza Minelli), just as he was becoming a blue chip on the art market.
