Recent SF transplant Thao Nguyen expertly blends indie folk's wistfulness with a bit of blues crunch, while crafting memorable melodies for her pensive lyrics. Since being taken under the wing of fellow indie artist Laura Veirs, Nguyen has stretched her musical legs on two catchy albums for Kill Rock Stars; with her bittersweet take on pop, she and her band, the Get Down Stay Down, (as she puts it on her MySpace page) "make a rope fit for hauling the heavy machinery of your day."
