Great American Music Hall says…

Twenty-five-year-old Annie Clark tosses out quite the maelstrom of ideas. Luckily, she also has a wholly capable musical persona with which to steady them. Taking the name St. Vincent, Clark put together Marry Me, one of the most unabashedly adventurous indie-pop albums of 2007. Her songs tweak and twist the influences she picked up as a backing singer for Sufjan Stevens and the Polyphonic Spree, borrowing theatricality from '70s Bowie, the coy power of Kate Bush, and the fractured digitization of many noise and electronic artists. Whether or not she's actually saintly is still up for debate, but St. Vincent is certainly onto something.
