Looking at artist Kristen Morgin's nimbly crafted sculptures — such as a faded, dent-laden pedal car — it's hard to avoid thoughts of the contracting auto industry's giants, and the sad, ongoing decline of the rustiest city in the Rust Belt. While Morgin's forms appear to be in the late stages of metal oxidization, the ancient-looking pieces are actually ceramic and cement. Evoking (presumably brighter) bygone days, the exhibition is chilling in several respects: Morgin's gaunt, decaying works highlight not only the myriad ways in which the ravages of time are democratic, but also hint at a darker fate awaiting a society that bases its livelihood on the mass production of items that aren't built to last.
