Matt Keegan's work — on display for the first time in San Francisco — features video, photographic, and sculptural elements, exploring issues of time and place in its construction of an "archive." Blurring the lines between past and present, personal and public, the works feature images based largely on Keegan's time spent in the Bay Area; calendars, newspapers, and other ephemera become mementos of another era. Simultaneously, Keegan raises a number of questions regarding visual representations of time, as well as the ways in which an image becomes "historical" and how an artist can record impressions in a manner that is both objective and intimate.
