Diplo's not the only one who can play the international tastemaker game — move over carioca, and make way for kuduro. Mixing chaotic baile funk rhythms, low-tech Bmore beats, synth-heavy retro techno, tribal dancehall, and fierce Portuguese rapping, the genre has found an ambassador in Buraka Som Sistema. The Angolan/Portuguese quartet already caught the ears and heart of M.I.A., who lent her vocal talents to a track on its new album, Black Diamond. Tonight, Buraka debut their live set to Bay Area audiences; and, for added poetic justice, DJ Sega — repping Diplo's Hollertronix label — warms up the crowd with some tricks on the ones and twos.
