First Congregational Church of Berkeley says…

It isn't far-fetched to propose that, without the impassioned engagement of film critic and filmmaker Donald Richie, far fewer American movie lovers would know the work of Akira Kurosawa or Yasujiro Ozu. First visiting Japan as a newspaper man working for the occupation forces, Richie quickly rose to prominence as a critic for The Japan Times, and soon thereafter became known as the leading Western authority on the country and its culture — especially its film culture. Tonight, the "Lafcadio Hearn of our time," as Tom Wolfe has called him, makes a personal appearance to discuss his life in movies with Telluride Film Festival Director Tom Luddy.
