Hip-hop is for nerds — or so seems to be the sentiment of Stones Throw Records. You won't see the label's founder, Peanut Butter Wolf, getting into any bi-coastal feuds, and his falsetto-laden electro cuts and obscure funk beats come from deep within the crates of a man who never touches his comic books, let alone his vinyl, with bare hands. Tonight, his wax serves as the soundtrack for a headlining VJ set, which the Stones Throw website modestly bills as Wolf "playing videos." Expect classic hip-hop cuts paired with a collage of kitschy old-school vids. Labelmate and multi-instrumentalist James Pants opens, performing his own electro and R&B-tinged funk live with his band Royal Zodiac.
