Drag queens, tranny chasers, and more than a few squares had their collective breath knocked out of them in 2003 when Fauxnique (aka Monique Jenkinson) was the first biologically female "faux queen" to win the coveted title of Miss Trannyshack. And for good reason too: Fauxnique's performances — in which her formal dance training is on display nearly as often as her makeup skills — are laser-sharp, frequently hilarious, and beautiful self-contained investigations into what critic Joan Riviere has called "womanliness as masquerade." For Faux Real, Jenkinson reprises some her of greatest moments from the Trannyshack stage, still proving that you can't take the crown from true royalty.
