While San Franciscans certainly don't lack for choices when it comes to film festivals, true cinephiles know that the San Francisco International Film Festival is the city's real heavy hitter. Although the oldest continuously running film festival in the Americas showcases narratives, documentaries, shorts, and experimental works from all corners, this year's opening night kicks off on a local note, with Peter Bratt's love song to San Francisco, La Mission. Your global dance card is still going to fill up fast, though, with anticipated features from Claire Denis, Koreeda Hirokazu, Alexis Dos Santos, previous festival fave Catherine Breillat, and Cruz Angeles.
