Bad dreams are relative. Watching Derek Jarman's hourlong film experiment In the Shadow Of the Sun — with its color-shifting, home movie/archive film footage pulsing like some kind of celluloid organism — is the odd mystery of wondering which sort of bad dream it's intended to cast you into. Malevolent industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle did the film's score — extra-dimensional ambient sound more monastic than brutal — in 1980 and, tonight, performs it live, followed by a selection of the TG classics that inspired nearly three decades of ear-splitting sonic warfare.
