Chiara Clemente's Our City Dreams is a lyrical and joyful portrait of five female artists reflecting on their shared home of New York City. Clemente's subjects include Egyptian-born Ghada Amer, who embroiders giant canvases of naked women; sculptor Kiki Smith, known for her evocative, organic forms; woodcut street artist Swoon; pioneering feminist painter Nancy Spero; and controversial, Belgrade-born body artist Marina Abramovic. Though they are of different generations and nationalities, and work in vastly different mediums, all of the artists articulate a deeply personal love (and occasional hate) for their adopted city — giving us further insight into the motivations and influences that shape their work.
