Over the course of several books and articles, Michael Pollan has emerged as a voice of reason amid the sloganeering that overruns food culture and politics. In his bestseller The Botany of Desire, he explored the way four plants (apples, tulips, marijuana, and potatoes) evolved along with changes in human populations and consumption models. For The Omnivore's Dilemma, he traced the origins and pathways of four meals, in the process stirring a lively debate with John Mackey, the CEO of Whole Foods. And In Defense of Food he reduced his manifesto for healthy eating to the pithy credo: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Tonight, Pollan lays out his ideas for greening the American agriculture industry, in turn, creating a more sustainable future.
