Objectified is speckled with scenes you've seen before — such as rows of people inside the translucent walls of an Apple store, hypnotized by the screens of MacBooks and iPhones — but the film is about what you haven't perceived before. Every object has a story, as Gerald Ford once said, and Gary Hustwit's latest documentary reveals these tales, as told by the designers that created them. We learn the biographies of items such as the potato peeler and a handheld vacuum, while also garnering a glimpse into why objects gain so much importance in our lives — whether it's complicated, simple, positive, or negative — and how someone designed each one so it would make us feel just that way.
