In the late '90s, graffiti art collective the Barnstormers invaded the rural town of Cameron, North Carolina, and covered farmhouses and tractors with eye-popping murals. The stunt marked the beginning of a seminal street-art movement, and Kenji Hirata and Che Jen were there, reveling in the motion and improvisation of the antics — the spirit of which still marks their work. Hirata's acrylic canvases pulse with aerodynamic stripes worthy of a race car, while Jen's ink-on-paper drawings swirl with feathers, bones, and switchbacking lines resembling dragon tails.
