The Internet has undoubtedly been one of the biggest factors in helping kink come into the mainstream — not to mention helping kinksters of all stripes find one another. San Francisco's own friendly neighborhood BDSM porn factory, Kink.com, has even inspired a local show of "fan art." And yet, there are segments of the kink community that still strike outsiders as beyond the pale. Anna Lorentzon and Barbara Bell's documentary takes an inside look at Insex.com, one of the most notorious hardcore bondage sites, on which models (predominantly women) willingly choose to be electrocuted, drowned, caged, and beaten. Interviewing site founder "pd" (a former Carnegie Mellon prof, no less) and many of the models, GSH examines the lucrative business of BDSM porn, as well as the attendant issues of consent and censorship raised by the site's extreme content.
