The Summit continues next week, from July 22 through the 25, with a series of 8:15pm performances.
Far too often, experimental and electronic music suffers from a Wizard of Oz-inspired attitude, by which we are expected to ignore "the man behind the curtain." The how and what behind what we're hearing is either purposefully occluded (think of Aphex Twin covering his gear) or tacitly dismissed by the ubiquity of a glowing Mac logo. However, The Outsound New Music Summit, a gathering of local sonic innovators, tears back the curtain in this "how things work"-style preview of the performers at this year's summit. Not only will you get plenty of "how" and "what," but you'll also be able to try your hand at twiddling knobs, programming patches, and thwacking homemade intruments.
