Whether you're a lover of lyric or a connoisseur of concrete poetry, the International Poetry Festival is an excellent opportunity to see the best and brightest poets from around the world. This year's festival features 26 poets from 21 countries, and includes a special honor for City Lights founder and local literary icon Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Thursday kicks things off with an opening bash at Jack Kerouac Alley in North Beach, and the poetry commences on Friday with an evening reading at the Palace of Fine Arts, followed by Saturday's library spotlight series. Sunday wraps up the festival with the famous North Beach poetry crawl and a closing party at Washington Square Park.
