For a skinny kid from Pittsburgh who smashes buttons for a living, Girl Talk has come a long way in the past few years: he's become headliner material for festivals across the country, and he's a main subject in Brett Gaylor's newest documentary, which explores the legal and creative implications of remixes and mashups. RiP, which screens tonight as part of the SF Film Society's Film + Club series, also features commentary from Larry Lessig, the founder of Creative Commons and longtime fair-use advocate; outspoken author and journalist Cory Doctorow; and Brazilian cultural icon Gilberto Gil. The night closes out with some live remix action, with sets from multimedia mashup trio Eclectic Method and Bootie all-stars Adrian and Mysterious D.
