The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival is always an eye-opening reminder of the diversity and variety of experience that falls under the banner of the Jewish Diaspora. The 29th festival proves no exception, with entries ranging from Zrubavel, Shmuel Beru's stirring drama about a working-class Ethiopian family facing the pull of assimilation in contemporary Israel, to The Gift of Stalin, in which a young boy finds family amid a of group of refugees in the outer reaches of Stalin-era Russia. Other highlights include Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg, Aviva Kempner's spirited tribute to one of the unsung Jewish pioneers of the golden age of American television, and a documentary about anti-corporate agit pranksters the Yes Men.
