For over five decades, acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki has captured the imaginations of international audiences, redefining the art of animation in the process. Yet the "Disney of Japan" is still something of a mystery. Despite his worldwide popularity, Miyazaki is famously reluctant to make public appearances or grant interviews. On the heels of the PFA's Tribute to Miyazaki film festival, the man himself makes an extremely rare appearance at Zellerbach Hall. He will discuss his body of work (including his newest film, Ponyo), his role as a recognized master of animation, and receive the prestigious Berkeley Japan Award.
